The award-winning distillery at Boplaas celebrates a milestone in September 2026 with the launch of it’s oldest Single Malt Whisky to date. With a distilling heritage that dates to 1880, Boplaas’s latest limited-edition release is arguably the first of its kind to emerge from the Karoo. Every step of the process involved the finest attention to detail to allow this whisky to express its character in the purest form.
Nose:
This single malt whisky presents inviting and complex aromas of dried fruit and honey. The subtle smokiness is balanced by delicate notes of apricot, peaches and chocolate.
Palate:
On the palate, this single malt whisky offers a delightful array of flavours. The malted barley is well balanced and perfectly complimented by the sweet and fruity notes of white peach and citrus. The palate is further enriched with the complex flavours of dried and candied fruits and chocolate from the Port Cask. The long and lingering finish of this whisky is a true delight. As the flavours of the palate begin to fade, the oak spiciness emerges, adding a warm and comforting note to the overall taste. The finish is smooth and elegant, with a perfect balance of sweetness and spiciness. Overall, this 10 year old single malt whisky is a masterful blend of flavours and aromas, creating a taste experience that is both complex and satisfying.
Serving suggestion:
Enjoy it neat at 15˚C-17 ˚C, with a block of ice and/or a splash of cool spring water.
Distillation and maturation:
Distilled from imported Scottish malted barley. The new make is aged in a combination of 2nd and 3rd fill ex-bourbon barrels for 5 years and then finished in Boplaas Cape Vintage and Tawny Port barrels. The whisky is non-chill filtered and natural in colour. Bottled at 46% alcohol.
