Product Description

The Nel’s of Boplaas have prided themselves on crafting the finest fortified wines possible from Portuguese varietals, applying traditional techniques and bottling wines to offer enjoyment decades from harvest.

The Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve is the pinnacle of their pursuit of fortified perfection – crafted from only the finest hand-harvested fruit from low-yielding old vines, bottled in limited quantities and destined for decades of careful bottle maturation and enjoyment.

Trellised, low-yield Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barocca, Souzão & Touriga Francesca vines with a minimum age of 10 to 35 years from various sites, soils & aspects – including a plot of ungrafted Tinta Barocca grown in red alluvials with calcium carbonate deposits.

Tasting Notes:

A quartet of Portuguese varietals – Tinta Barocca, Touriga Nacional, Souzão & Touriga Francesca – combine in this inky black wine bursting forth with a bouquet of crushed black berry, blue berry, tart cranberry, kirschand purple plums with bright all-spice top notes intermingled by fynbos, apricot and savoury undercurrents.  The bouquet slowly unfurls onto bold juvenile palate with liquorice, dried peach and cocoa hints to the dry finish.  Time will temper the fiery fruity exuberance of youth, slowly unfurling the complexities of this fine Cape fortified.
